Condemnation Explodes as Former President Trump's Social Media Remarks on Director Rob Reiner Spurs Sharp Rebuke

Figures from both sides of the partisan divide and the Hollywood world are coming together to denounce Donald Trump for his statements following the shocking passing of renowned filmmaker Rob Reiner and his wife, Michele.

An Inflammatory Social Media Statement

After the couple were found deceased at their Brentwood residence, Trump took to social media to describe the deceased director as "anguished and struggling". In a message, he asserted Reiner's death was "because of the hostility he caused others through his massive, unyielding, and untreatable condition with a debilitating disease known as TRUMP DERANGEMENT SYNDROME".

The post quickly shifted to self-praise, juxtaposing Reiner's alleged "raging obsession" and "obvious paranoia" with what Trump called the "Golden Age of America".

Police Update and Arrest

Authorities have since announced the detention of the Reiners' adult son, Nick, on suspicion of murder in connection with the incident. It is reported his bail was established at a substantial sum.

A Torrent of Condemnation from Public Figures

The reaction to Trump's post was immediate and harsh.

This is a appalling and vile comment,ā€ said public figure Patrick Schwarzenegger.

Media personality Whoopi Goldberg, who called Reiner a close acquaintance, similarly criticized the remarks. Goldberg referenced previous rhetoric from Trump about the killing of an activist, demanding, "Have you no shame? Is it possible to get any lower?"

California's Democratic governor, Gavin Newsom, simply wrote, "He is a disturbed man."

Mirroring this sentiment, Congressman Maxwell Alejandro Frost said, "What a contemptible piece of trash."

Senator Chris Murphy added, "He's just lost it. Now implying Rob and Michele Reiner caused their own murder because they didn’t support him. So sick."

Rebuke from Within Party

Some GOP elected officials also voiced disapproval.

Representative Marjorie Taylor Greene emphasized that the situation was "a personal tragedy, not about politics or political enemies". Greene also mentioned challenges with substance abuse and mental health some families face.

Fellow GOP representative, Thomas Massie, called Trump's remarks "inappropriate and disgraceful" given the nature of the deaths. He openly dared others in his party to justify the comments.

Reiner's Legacy and Stance on Trump

Rob Reiner was long a vocal detractor of Donald Trump. During a previous conversation, he argued Trump was "mentally unfit" for the office. He had also cautioned about the risks of autocracy if Trump return to power.

"We see autocracy on the rise around the world," Reiner noted. "If we crumble, there’s a risk that democratic systems collapse around the world."

Despite his strong criticisms, Reiner had in the past expressed "absolute horror" and condemned violence for political ends without reservation following the killing of another individual.

A Notable Link: The Art of the Deal

Providing a element of past connection, Michele Reiner, previously Michele Singer, was the artist who captured the cover image for Donald Trump's 1987 book, The Art of the Deal.

Rob Reiner had once recounted the anecdote of the photo shoot, noting Trump's demand for "a specific hair product" as being photographed on a skyscraper with a view of Central Park.
