Patrick Bamford Joins Sheffield United Despite Initiating Abusive Chants Targeting Coach Wilder

Patrick Bamford has signed with the Championship side just half a year after starting disrespectful chants targeting their manager, Chris Wilder.

The 32-year-old forward, a free agent since leaving Leeds United, has agreed to a agreement with the Championship club in difficulty until January. His seven-year time with Leeds was ended through agreement this past summer.

Among the player's final notable acts as a Leeds player was to lead abusive songs about Chris Wilder amid Leeds' promotion party in April. Currently, the one-cap England international will be playing for Wilder as the Blades’ manager aims to pull the team he loves away from the bottom places.

Previous History Between Bamford and the Manager

The pair had a past before Leeds moved up back to the Premier League last season while Sheffield United were defeated in the promotion decider to Sunderland. The manager described the forward as “a muppet” when the situation was different during the 2018-19 season and the Blades won direct promotion while Leeds United fell short in the promotion playoffs.

Making Amends and Looking Ahead

All seems to have been resolved with Sheffield United, the league's least productive attack, in desperate need of a boost up front while Bamford aiming to resurrect his playing days.

The Wilder chant went viral this spring. An apologetic Bamford along with Leeds boss, Farke, phoned Wilder the following day.

Chris Wilder said back then: “Had a conversation with Pat yesterday and I’ve no problem at all with it. I’m not sure regarding the language from a fellow pro! However I valued and admired him giving me a call.

“We spent 20 minutes and the same again I spoke to Daniel too and we had a half-hour chat together and he is a super guy, a top guy. When I was playing we used to give it and accept it and that’s part and parcel of football at every level, even on a Sunday morning. I have no problem at all. I'm fine with the situation and I said that to Patrick.”

Recent Playing Struggles

Bamford featured in 18 games with Leeds United last season but the former Nottingham Forest, Chelsea and Boro striker has faced difficulties with injury over the past few seasons.
