Seamer Gus Atkinson Exacerbates England's Fitness Worries.

'Significant concern' for England as Atkinson leaves the field with a hamstring injury.

The English seamer further complicated England's injury problems after leaving the field on the second morning in the Melbourne Test in the Ashes series.

The right-arm seamer pulled up with his left hamstring after the final ball of the fourth over at the MCG.

The touring camp stated Atkinson felt some "soreness" and was to take time away from the action for further assessment "in the coming hours".

The final Test in this Ashes battle at the SCG starts at the end of the week.

England have already lost key quicks Mark Wood due to knee trouble and another paceman to a side strain on this Ashes tour.

Matthew Fisher was brought into the squad as injury reinforcement.

The seamer had a tough time during the first two matches, managing only a handful of scalps.

He was omitted from the previous Test, before being recalled for the Boxing Day match as Archer's replacement.

Atkinson performed better in the fourth Test, bagging two scalps in Australia's first innings, and scoring 28 runs with the bat being one of only three English batsmen who passed ten runs.

Following a brief spell in Australia's second innings, he returned for the second day's play and had nightwatchman taken by the wicketkeeper.

However, at the end of the fifth over, he bowled a change of pace to the batsman and immediately felt for his hamstring.

Atkinson was brought back for the Melbourne match after being left out the Adelaide game.
