🔗 Share this article The network's Top New Show of This Year Gets a Significant Renewal for an Additional Two Seasons. In October of last year, the late-night programming block saw the return of its offbeat hit, Smiling Friends. Yet, not long after, the channel launched a fresh animated series with a markedly softer tone. Haha, You Clowns was heartwarming and calm, evoking a cartoon version of a contemplative talk show. In an era often marked by cynicism, this show's sincerity resonated deeply and turned it into a surprise hit. A Two-Season Greenlight In mid-December, Adult Swim confirmed a big renewal: Haha, You Clowns has been greenlit for two more seasons. This provides showrunner Joe Cappa a massive runway to further explore the story of the Campbell family. The show follows three polite teenage brothers whose central trait is their profound affection for their widowed father, with Cappa voicing for all four main characters. "My deepest thanks go to the audience of the show who gave *Haha, You Clowns* a chance and shared it with others," stated Cappa. "I am overjoyed that I get to hang out at the Campbell household for seasons to come." Executive Acclaim Accompanying the news commendation from Adult Swim president Michael Ouweleen, who called the series as "profoundly sincere and strangely uncanny." He shouted out the fans who embraced the show and advocated for its distinctly quirky appeal. "All of you got behind this new show, championed for it on social media, and helped it grow week over week so we could approve not one, but two more seasons," commented Ouweleen. "As the show says: 'You are strong! You are loved!'" A Wholesome Alternative Earlier this fall, Haha, You Clowns was hailed as "a comforting antidote" to more cynical adult animated fare. There’s something surprisingly comfy about observing this endearing family go about their daily lives. At the time, creator Joe Cappa shared his goal to help comedy break out of its current cynical streak. He traced this trend to various cultural shifts. “It feels like there's a default mode of irony that we can't get ourselves out of,” noted Cappa. “It feels as if we have to know we’re the cleverest viewer in the room when we're watching stuff. I feel like we've been doing this for too long, and we just have to laugh at something different now. The genre needs to change.” What Comes Next Given this two-season order, with Haha, You Clowns locked in for the future, Cappa has the opportunity to be part of that comedic shift. Or at the very least, the renewal promises audiences more opportunities to enjoy the heartfelt moments of the endearing Campbell clan. The final episode of Season 1 of Haha, You Clowns will premiere on December 21st. The complete first season is available for streaming on HBO Max.
