This Swine Life: Hog Named 6-7 Spared by Miami-Dade Leader.

Although not quite at the same level as pardoning Thanksgiving turkeys, but the Miami-Dade County mayor had her own ceremonial pardon event this week by ritually sparing the life of a swine named Six Seven.

Daniella Levine Cava performed the seasonal stunt at the Cuban-style Latin Cafe 2000 in the center of Miami’s iconic Little Havana neighborhood.

“This animal is guiltless. She deserves this act of mercy. Her criminal record is spotless,” stated the mayor in a speech with inescapable allusions to the vast quantity of pardons issued since the beginning of a current administration.

“Except perhaps for eating 6 or 7 apples per day,” the mayor added. “Let this swine have a prosperous future without fear.”

The gathering, simultaneously observing and challenging the region’s Hispanic tradition of consuming swine during the holidays, was established to mirror the yearly bird sparing at the White House.

The swine, contributed by a first responder, was christened after the modern linguistic fad of young people exclaiming “six-seven” – deriving from a musical verse – often seemingly at random. The phrase became so widespread that a major dictionary recently named “six-seven” its annual vocabulary selection.

A Future Secured

The pardoned swine is now scheduled to spend its days at a countryside refuge “distant from barbecues and spits”, according to the organizers' announcement.

“The pig pardon has become a beloved tradition to open the festive period,” said Eric Castellanos, in a decidedly positive message.

“It embodies the spirit of Miami: vibrant, varied, and rooted in traditions that unite the community. Annually, we are honored to observe tradition and kindness in a way unique to Miami.”

Guests enjoyed a plant-based fare of spinach croquetas and cafecito as they celebrated the pig's pardon.
